Logical phonics
activities make READERS out of 4 TO 6 year olds !
Pink Level Materials ,
used for 4 to 6 year olds, are the first level of the phonetic
reading program and provide the child with his first introduction to
actual, phonetic reading. They are all two and three letter
phonetic words. These materials provide a slightly
increasing level of difficulty with each step and gradually lead the
child to become a confident reader.
The Pink Object Boxes are
the first reading exercise and the children are attracted to these
activities by the interesting objects as well as the desire to read.
The children see and name the objects in the box, sound out the word
on each card and then match it to the object, as in "cat",
"map", "pot", or "bud". The
objects provide a "cue" to get the child reading and
experiencing success.
The next step is less concrete, but still provides "cues" with the Pink Word and Picture Cards, followed by the Picture Sheets, which present more pictures to attend to, while matching word cards. Pink Word Booklets are the first time the child reads without an object or picture cue so words like at, and, and on can be introduced. This is followed by the more difficult Pink Word Lists which present several words to read without cues. The first level is now complete.
With the success
of reading over 100 first level Phonetic words, the child moves on
with confidence to the Blue Level.
